National Schools Success
Congratulations to all our NSR crews. Some great racing culminated in the WJ14 8x winning GOLD!
Historic win for Nottingham and Union Rowing Club Juniors at National Schools Regatta
The Union Junior 14 girls won the Windrush Trophy for W.J14 Octuple Sculls by 2.13 seconds, breaking the course record in the process. Trevor Rainbow, club captain, confirmed that this is the first time the club has won gold at the National Schools Regatta, and the first time a provincial rowing club has won the W.J14 octuple sculls event. The regatta is now held on the course built for the 2012 London Olympics and sees five thousand junior rowers from the UK and Ireland compete. Competition for this event was tough with 43 crews, mostly Thames Valley independent schools and clubs, competing for the trophy.
The crew were Amelia Apps, Niamh Kirkham, Maddy Gisby, Evie Newman, Lauren Mcleod, Amy Cullis, Ruby Penn and Cerys Rigby, and they were coxed by George Rainbow. They were coached by Steve Collins and Jessica Apps.
